James Marcus, Ph.D., is a Scientist/Psychometrician on the Patient-Reported Outcomes Center of Excellence in Pharmerit International’s Bethesda, MD office. He has extensive experience in measurement and test development. Drawing from expertise in a wide variety of techniques in classical test theory and item response theory, he has overseen instruments’ psychometric life-cycle from piloting, validation, maintenance, and refreshment.
As part of this work, he has researched and implemented decision rules regarding routing and placement for tests, developed novel data visualizations for facilitating decision-making and feedback, and has served as lead author on technical documentation and reports. At Pharmerit, Dr. Marcus applies his psychometric expertise to patient-reported outcome research projects, psychometrically validating new instruments and leading the analysis of PRO measures in randomized clinical trials. Dr. Marcus earned a PhD in Psychometrics at Fordham University and also possesses a MA in Quantitative Psychology and a MS in Statistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
